通地 Commonplace
❝ 12 posters, 12 gateways: shaping a year into your own form. ❞
info.
In this almanac created by Commonplace, the twelve months are individually dismantled and reassembled as twelve imagined gateways. Through varied colour palettes, layouts, and cut-out forms, each month corresponds to the conceptual theme of its featured celebration.
Through the Elsewhere Almanac, time can be carefully observed, reorganized, and carried, slowly taking shape within space. Twelve heterotopias, multiple scenarios: not only do they lead you to new places, they also transform your living space as time unfolds.

Jan. 13 ——— National Sticker Day [US]
🏷️ Don’t just live the moments. Mark them.
Stickers are the most intuitive form of occupation.
At the beginning of the year, days are transformed into spiral-like contours. Once these attachable markers leave their original place, they begin altering the surfaces of other things.
(In 1935, R. Stanton Avery invented the self-adhesive label.)

𝐷𝑎𝑦𝑠 𝑢𝑛𝑓𝑜𝑙𝑑 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑀𝑢𝑦𝑏𝑟𝑖𝑑𝑔𝑒’𝑠 ℎ𝑜𝑟𝑠𝑒, 𝑎𝑙𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑚𝑜𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛. 🐎 🐎 🐎
The Year of the Horse symbolizes speed and untamable momentum.
Days unfold frame by frame through projected transformations, structured as continuous motion—like the afterimages of Muybridge’s galloping horse advancing through time, accumulating force as it moves forward.

Apr. 23 ——— World Book Day
Reading lets us leave this place for a while, only to return once we finish.
April treats days as a stack of unfolded book spines, an architecture made tangible.

May. 18 ——— International Museum Day
🏛️ We imagine May as a museum in the midst of opening, where time is displayed through curatorial logic.
Inspired by exhibition floor plans, days are transformed into routes, galleries, and pause points—condensing time. Here, days are not merely marked, but observed, navigated, and revisited.
Jun. 21 ——— Go Skateboarding Day
🛹 ❝ Skateboarding is poetry of motion. ❞
— Stevie Williams
Skateboarding is a poem about movement.
June is written as a skate diary: each event a node, each ollie imperfect yet rhythmic through repetition. Skateboarding measures space through immediate bodily movement, composing verses through persistent tricks.
Go skateboarding! Try a new trick at the park!
Jul. 2 ——— World UFO Day
👽 The truth is out there.
Some points of light in the sky do not belong to current physics.
Built on observation and hypothesis, each moment becomes scattered coordinates and obscure presences. Unexplainable phenomena keep drawing our gaze upward—not to provide answers, but to preserve space for imagining the unknown.

Sep. 30 ——— International Translation Day
“Others are indispensable for me to see myself.”
🗣️ “Autrui est le médiateur indispensable entre moi et moi-même.”
—— Jean-Paul Sartre
Self 𝒎𝒐𝒊-𝒎𝒆̂𝒎𝒆 ←——→ Other 𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒊
Translation exists in the in-between. It reshapes language as it moves.
In September, days become nodes of transformation, allowing time—like language—to be reinterpreted. Through translation, new understandings and positions emerge.
Oct. 14 ——— World Standards Day
📐 11001010101010101000101111101
Everyday measures, references, and units form a system for calibration.
Here, days are carefully measured and compared.
All standards exist to help us understand difference.
Nov. 8 ——— World Radiography Day
📡 ❝ Words can be like X-rays, if you use them properly,
they’ll go through anything. ❞
— Aldous Huxley, Brave New World
On November 8, 1895, Wilhelm Röntgen discovered X-rays, revealing invisible structures.
November adopts grids of penetration and exposure—time no longer shows only surfaces, but reveals inner order, reminding us that beyond the everyday lies another observable layer.
Dec. 21 ——— World Basketball Day
🏀 ❝ The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra. ❞
— Jimmy Johnson
The difference between the ordinary and the extraordinary is just a bit more.
December unfolds as a virtual shooting drill: dense landing points record moments of scoring and missing on either side. Each day is repeatedly thrown and caught on this plane. In the final round of the year, you may choose to sit in the stands and replay the moments that mattered most.
Get going to A new place.
